road-nz-creditOne Sunday I heard a sermon by Reverend Anita Bradshaw in Minneapolis, and I was struck by one particular phrase that she repeated: “Extremes make us stupid!” I thought, yes, that’s so true; extremism blinds us to that core of humanness that connects us to other people, including – and especially – those with whom we may disagree. As we have seen time and time again, extremism can also bring dire consequences, even violence towards specific groups of people – not because of what they do, but because of who they are.

Take the Middle Road encourages us to take a step back from our polarized camps and worldviews, and to meet each other on the common ground of our shared humanity.

THE SCORE: SSATB a cappella, with the opportunity to feature multiple soloists above the rhythmic doo-wop style backup parts.
